Barnaby wore a big white hat.
He rode a small brown donkey named Bob.
Bob walked very slowly.
Barnaby wanted to be a tough outlaw.
He had a plastic toy pistol.

The Town of Dry Creek

Barnaby rode into Dry Creek.
The sun was hot.
A tumbleweed rolled past Bob's nose.
Bob sneezed.
Barnaby fell off the donkey.
He landed in a giant prickly cactus.
Barnaby yelled very loud.
He looked like a green pin cushion.

The Wrong Building

Barnaby pulled the cactus needles out.
He walked to the biggest building.
He thought it was the town bank.
He kicked the door open.
He pointed his toy gun.
He shouted, "Hand over the gold!"

The Surprise Party

Everyone in town turned around.
It was not a bank.
It was the town bakery.
The sheriff was eating a blueberry muffin.
The mayor was holding a birthday cake.
Everyone stared at Barnaby.

The Big Escape

The sheriff smiled.
He offered Barnaby a slice of cake.
Barnaby got very embarrassed.
He ran out of the bakery.
He jumped back onto Bob.
Bob walked away at his normal slow speed.
The townspeople clapped and cheered.
